Medical Industry
Just as no two knees are the same, no manufacturing processes are the same.
Our Infinite Possibilities programme for tooling meets and exceeds the demands of your medical manufacturing and production requirements.
Delivering absolute smoothness – a must for protection against wear and early failure.
Biocompatible metallic materials need to be hard-wearing and require high levels of surface finish to achieve their expected lifetime of 20 years or more.
Knee replacement components
A high density biomedical polyurethane spacer is used for the bearing component. Metal and plastic are widely utilized in artificial knee joints used in knee replacement surgery. The injured thighbone and shinbone are replaced with metal alloy components. On the shin and kneecap components, high-density plastic substitutes cartilage.
Our Mirage-Super endmills, Eliminator barrel tools, Zodiac and Gladiator ballnose, Spectre highfeed plus bespoke T-slot and step drills are perfect for manufacturing medical components.
Shoulder replacement components
The shoulder is a socket-and-ball joint. The upper arm bone’s spherical head (ball) fits into a shallow socket in the shoulder. Joint damage can result in pain, weakness, and stiffness.
Shoulder implants are available in a variety of forms and sizes. Partial and complete replacements are available, with anatomic or reverse implants. The tools involved in this process would include bespoke drills, step drills and barrel tools.
Elbow replacement components
The injured humerus and ulna are replaced with prosthetic components during complete elbow replacement surgery. A metal and plastic hinge with two metal stems forms the prosthetic elbow joint. The stems fit into the canal, which is a hollow section of the bone.
There are several types of elbow replacements, and the components vary in size. There are also partial elbow replacements available for usage in extremely particular circumstances.
Spinal and Trauma
Other solutions for spinal injuries include spinal fusion and vertebral body replacements. Severe fractures are unstable and frequently need surgery to remove and replace the injured vertebrae while also stabilizing the spine. The damaged portion is replaced with a tiny metal cage filled with bone graft material, which is then screwed into the surrounding healthy vertebrae during a lumbar vertebral body replacement.
The intervertebral fusion cage is a big, hollow cylinder formed of metal, typically titanium. It is designed as a “cage” to allow a bone graft to be inserted within the hollow cylinder to allow spinal fusion between two vertebrae to occur. The openings in the cage allow the bone to grow around and through it, joining the two vertebrae with solid bone.
Hip replacement components
There are various types of complete hip replacement devices available today, each with a distinct bearing surface and each requiring precision engineering.
Metal-on-Polyethylene replacement is where the ball is metal, while the socket is plastic (polyethylene) or has a plastic liner. The ball is made of ceramic, while the socket is made of plastic (polyethylene) or has a plastic liner.
With Ceramic-on-Ceramic, the ball is composed of ceramic, and the socket is lined with ceramic.
with Ceramic-on-Metal replacements the ball is constructed of ceramic, while the socket is lined with metal.
Panther drill, Turbomill, Reamers, Mirage-Super and Chamfer are all tools that we would recommend for the medical industry.
Specialist medical expertise
We do more than just sell cutters. Our goal is to become your tooling ally by assisting you in increasing your productivity. We do this by optimizing metal removal rates and durability by using the latest technology and tool for the application. Not just any job, but your job is achieved by applying the right technology and tool for the job. And not just any job, your job.
Our process often involves producing tools specific to your needs at costs similar to what you will be paying for standard tooling. We pride ourselves on offering virtually any tool in size, diameter, radius, or reach. This technique has been so effective that it has been dubbed ‘Infinite Possibilities,’ and it has now been expanded to encompass a variety of complementary services, such as remanufacture and inventory control, as part of our ‘Total Solution Engineering’ program.
Quickgrind has several ranges that are suited to the titanium and cobalt chrome used in the medical industry, including Eliminator barrel tools in conical form, concave form, and tangential form; Lens tools and Form F. tools; Mirage Super endmills; Zodiac ballnose; Gladiator ballnose; Undercut tools; Panther step drills, and QChamfer tools.
Over fifty years of tooling excellence
Operating in 37 countries, we have an international reputation for expertise and excellence in the design and creation of carbide cutting tools. We can create the perfect tools for your industry and project.
